Living with an ostomy can feel overwhelming, especially at first. Your donation helps make sure no one in our community has to face that journey alone.
Where your donation goes
Calgary Ostomy is 100% volunteer-run. Every dollar you give stays focused on supporting local ostomates and their families through education, connection, and community.
Support Groups & Meetings
We host regular support group meetings where people with ostomies, and their families, can ask questions, share experiences, and feel understood. Donations help cover room rentals, refreshments, educational materials, and technology for hybrid/online meetings when possible.
Community Events and Education
We organize local events that bring ostomates together, offer education, and build community. Your support helps us host information sessions, speaker nights, and outreach events that increase awareness and reduce stigma around living with an ostomy.
Ostomy Canada Youth Camp Support
Every year we help send young people with ostomies to camp so they can connect with others who truly understand what they are going through. We typically cover 50% of the camp fees for about six or more kids each year, depending on need and available funds. Your donation helps make camp possible for these youth and their families.
Ostomy Visitor Program
Our trained volunteers, who are themselves ostomates or J-Pouchers, provide one-on-one support to individuals before and after surgery. Visitors share their personal experiences, offer reassurance, answer questions, and help new ostomates feel more prepared and less alone. Donations help us train volunteers, create educational materials, and coordinate visits in hospitals and in the community.
Step Up For Ostomy Awareness Walk
We take part in Step Up For Ostomy, an awareness and fundraising event that shines a light on ostomy life and celebrates resilience. Donations help with event costs such as materials, promotion, and logistics, so more people can participate and learn.
Website, Outreach, and Administration
Even a volunteer-run group has basic costs. Your gift helps us maintain our website, print brochures and information packages, cover insurance and banking fees, and keep our local support network running smoothly.
